Beware of Storm Chasers…Klausmair Construction isn’t One!

storm chasers

Are you aware that some contractors are storm chasers? They aren’t literally chasing storms, but they are seeking out homeowners in a geographic area that have been impacted by a recent storm and they try to take advantage of the situation.  Beware of this type of contractor and know that Klausmair construction will never be a storm chaser. Here are a few things to keep in mind to avoid storm chasers:

Be Thoughtful About the Reason a Contractor is Contacting You

If you get a knock on your door from someone who says that they have spied damage to your home and can help you with a repair quickly. This is a sign that you should beware. Storm chasers will look for a damaged home. Then reach out to the homeowner and offer to quickly and affordably take care of it. In a situation like this, the homeowner should be the one to contact the contractor. Also, you should always ask for credentials from any contractor, especially those whom you think may be storm chasers.

Do Research on the Contractor

It’s fairly simple to research contractors. The use of the internet and social media is wonderful. You can simply do a Google search of the company in question and there will be a plethora of information on the screen. You can also check out the contractor’s social media to find out if there are any negative comments about their service. This is a good way to get a feel for what the contractor’s reputation is like. Do yourself a favor and protect yourself from the storm chasers’ scam by doing a few minutes of research.

It is Good to Get More Than One Quote & Ask Questions

If you do decide to get a quote from a contractor for storm damage, do yourself another favor and get multiple quotes. Every home contractor is different, but all of them should welcome your questions and respect your desire to get more than one quote. Any good contractor will have no problem with a homeowner doing either of those things. Storm chasers will probably come in very low on their quote and will often times cut corners and leave out details. They will be very vague when answering questions. This is, of course, a red flag. It means that they are looking to make quick money and your repair will not be taken care of properly.

You can always feel confident calling Klausmair Construction for any exterior home repair need, remodel, or replacement. We are not storm chasers and we have an outstanding reputation in Lancaster and the surrounding areas. Take a look at our website to get more information about our reputation and our services.
